Dental Health Outreach in Kitale, Kenya | Casaupendo

Casaupendo's dental health outreach in Kitale, Kenya reached 155 children with toothbrushes, toothpaste, and practical oral-health education to build healthy Smiles, confidence, and Lifelong Habits.
Sometimes, lasting change begins with something as simple as a toothbrush. In August 2026, Casaupendo organized a dental health outreach in Kitale, Kenya, reaching 155 children with practical oral-health education and care. The outreach was part of our commitment to supporting the whole child—not only through education, nutrition, shelter, and emotional well-being, but also through preventive health education that can benefit children for years to come.

Casaupendo Board Member
Allison Sims and visiting volunteer Leslie Wathen helped lead the children through practical lessons on how to brush their teeth correctly and why good oral hygiene matters. But this was more than a lesson. For some of the children who participated, the outreach provided an opportunity to learn and practice proper toothbrushing with the resources they needed to continue those habits at home.
155 Children. 155 Opportunities for Healthier Futures.
During the outreach, 155 children received toothbrushes and toothpaste and participated in hands-on dental health education. Rather than simply distributing supplies, the team demonstrated proper brushing techniques and gave the children an opportunity to practice what they were learning.
That distinction matters.
A toothbrush can eventually wear out. Knowledge can last a lifetime. By teaching children how and why to care for their teeth, the outreach was designed to create healthy habits that children can carry with them long after the event itself.
Health Is Part of the Casaupendo Whole-Child Approach
At Casaupendo, we believe transforming the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children in Kenya requires caring for the whole child.
A child's health affects their ability to learn, participate in school, build confidence, and enjoy everyday life. That is why healthcare and health education are important parts of our broader approach alongside education, nutrition, counseling and trauma-informed psychological support, spiritual mentorship, and practical life-skills development.
Our vision extends beyond meeting today's immediate needs. We want children to acquire the knowledge, confidence, and skills they need to build healthy and independent futures. The dental health outreach was one more step toward that goal.
The Power of Showing Up
One of the most meaningful moments of the day was watching Allison kneel beside a child and carefully demonstrate how to brush her teeth. It was a small moment—but it captured something much bigger about service at Casaupendo. Meaningful change does not always happen on a stage.
Sometimes it happens when one person sits beside one child and says through their actions:
You matter. Your health matters. Your future matters.
We are deeply grateful to Allison Sims and Leslie Wathen for traveling to Kitale and investing their time, knowledge, and compassion in our children and community. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone whose generosity helped make this outreach possible.
Creating Impact Beyond Our Campus
Casaupendo's work does not stop at the boundaries of our children's home. Through community outreach, education, mental health initiatives, health promotion, and partnerships, we seek to extend opportunities and practical support to children and families throughout our surrounding community.
Reaching 155 children through dental health education is one example of what becomes possible when people come together around a shared commitment to children's well-being.
You Can Be Part of the Next Story
Every Casaupendo outreach begins with people who believe that changing one life matters.
Your support helps us provide education, nutritious meals, healthcare, psychological support, life-skills training, and opportunities for orphaned and vulnerable children in Kenya.
Together, we can continue building healthier children, stronger communities, and brighter futures.
